Previous Efforts to Ban Kratom in Virginia

In 2020, lawmakers introduced State Bill VA HJR39, which would have mandated that the state’s Board of Pharmacy research kratom and advise on whether or not kratom should be added to the state’s controlled substances list. • Age Restrictions: The act prohibits the sale of kratom products to individuals under the age of 21. This measure is intended to protect minors from potential risks associated with kratom use.

• Labeling Requirements: All kratom products sold in Virginia must list all ingredients on the product label and provide a warning about potential health risks. This ensures that consumers are well-informed about the product’s contents and can make educated decisions regarding their use.
